Tooth Whitening

We have been using the teeth whitening system developed by Enlighten Research Laboratories to treat our patients for several years, and have been pleased with the results.

This is what Enlighten say about teeth whitening:

"Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to enhance your look. Whether you want to add a sparkle to your smile for you wedding day or perfect your look for business meetings, whitening is simple, affordable and safe.

Many people say that they feel years younger after the treatment, having erased the effects of ageing, coffee, red wine and cigarettes."

How does it work?

Evolution bleaching works by increasing the tooth permeability to oxygen which breaks down stain molecules. It is a combination treatment meaning that it involves applying the treatment at home after preparation, instruction and under the supervision of your the dentist

How white will my teeth get?

Evolution bleaching can whiten teeth up to 16 shades, (ask the dentist to demonstrate). Results vary, but if used correctly all teeth will whiten dramatically.

Will they look too white?

No, natural teeth rarely look too white. Sometimes very white crowns can look wrong because they are made of porcelain

Will my crowns, veneers or fillings change colour?

No, sometimes you may need to change some of these after bleaching.

Is there pain or discomfort?

You may get some transient sensitivity, however your dentist will give you easy to use desensitising swabs to take home, which work immediately.

How long does it take?

There are three visits to the dentist and a period of application of the whitening gel at home. At the first appointment with the dentist, which is for ten minutes, impressions of your teeth will be taken from which the bleaching 'trays' will be made to fit your mouth. Ten days later when the trays have been delivered, the dentist will spend twenty minutes with you checking the fit of the trays and giving instruction on how to use them with the bleaching gel. You will then apply the gel to your teeth in the bleaching tray overnight for two weeks. At the final visit to the dentist, the results of there treatment will be reviewed. If necessary a final power whitening will be applied in the surgery for an hour.

How long does it last?

Results can last indefinitely with some very simple maintenance by wearing the trays for 1 night every other month.

Is it safe?

Completely, the materials used in Evolution bleaching have been use in dentistry for over 100 years.

How much does it cost?

The cost is £400 for members of the Maryport Dental Care Plan and £500 for other patients. This is spread over the course of the treatment with 50% payable at the first appointment with the dentist, and then 25% at each of the other two appointments.
